The Oscar-nominated song “Our Town”

Today, Randy Newman‘s song, “Our Town,” performed by James Taylor, was nominated for an Academy Award for Original Song.

Here is the song and its key scene from the hit Pixar animated movie, “Cars.”

“Our Town” is available on the “Cars” soundtrack. And, yes, the album and song both are available on iTunes.

  1. i don’t know how many times i have run down route 66.seeing all the old stops and feeling their pain as they, and me fade into the rust and dust.randy newman has always been one of my favorite songwriters, and james taylor one of my favorite musicians.they both nailed the feeling i feel when i go down that old road.seeing towns disappear into the neglect.historical remnants of a bygone era.when the roads moved with the land.the towns were a welcome rest for the weary traveler.and the world a little friendlier.and, yes,it brought a tear to my eye as well.

  2. It chokes me up, I’m a big city boy now, but grew up in a town of 1,000 people in rural South Australia. This song absolutely nails the sense of loss I get it when I go home. Unfortunately it seems that economies of scale have become all too important. Not that I’m helping. Sigh.
