The Country Dove’s signature dish

Actually, the signature dish at the Country Dove in Elk City, Okla., isn’t an entree, but dessert.

It’s the French silk pie that’s the tea room and gift shop’s claim to fame, and it is dee-lish. It’s light — in both texture and taste. The richness doesn’t overwhelm you. The crust also contains nuts —  chopped pecans, I think.

But, as we found out during a trip on Route 66 last week, the Country Dove is pretty good with other food, too. This grilled-cheese sandwich on wheat bread with a cup of potato soup turned out to be a perfect lunch. On the right on the plate is a roll and a square of jello. The Country Dove also offers several salads.

Gifts take up two floors of the Country Dove, ranging from arts and crafts to religious books to antiques.

(The Country Dove is at 610 W. Third St., aka Route 66, in Elk City, Okla. Its phone number is 580-225-7028.)
