Devil’s Elbow Bridge update

Those wondering about the ongoing quest to rehab the Devil’s Elbow Bridge at the Route 66 town of Devil’s Elbow, Mo., here’s a progress report courtesy of the Waynesville Daily Guide:

Commissioner Bill Farnham had one item of good news on a major bridge project: he said a different type of material may be used that will prevent the need for future rust removal on the historic Devil’s Elbow Bridge, which is part of the original alignment of Route 66 through Pulaski County. That bridge has deteriorated to the point that a weight limit has been placed on it that prevents tour buses from driving through Devil’s Elbow, and Farnham has been trying to obtain enough grants to repair the bridge and prevent a future closure.

The next step, Farnham said, will be to hire an engineer for the bridge project.
