Attendance at Fire and Ice Rally holds steady

Attendance at the Fire and Ice Route 66 Bike Rally in Grants, N.M., last weekend was an estimated 15,000, reported the Cibola County Beacon.

Last year’s flood had no effect on the attendance for this year’s Eighth Annual Fire and Ice Route 66 Bike Rally which saw a slight increase from last year, he said. The flood might not have affected the rally but gas prices could have.

“If gas wasn’t so high, I think we would have had a substantial increase this year, Jaramillo stated.[…]

The vendors were pleased with the turnout but did mention that the crowd spent less than usual. This could have been due to the high hotel prices in town, some claimed.

According to Jaramillo, one vendor mentioned a room costing as much as $275 for one night. The prices didn’t stop people from coming though, because all rooms were filled out Saturday. Friday there were a few places that had one or two rooms available.
