Route 66 Rendezvous coverage

A slew of reports are coming about the massive Route 66 Rendezvous in San Bernardino, Calif., which is this weekend.

  • The mayor does a little striptease to kick off the event. No, I’m not kidding.
  • A report about the Neon Cruise, in which vehicles are decorated with lights. One had 17 blue neon lights on the car (with video).
  • A reporter tries to see how much she can eat from the food booths in an hour, with $30 in her pocket. Gotta like the jumbo hot dog wrapped in bacon.
  • An opinion piece insists that a way to straighten out the young people of San Bernardino is to let them do what the Rendezvous does — start cruising. As long as the gas holds out, I guess.
  • A preview of the Rendezvous Hall of Fame dinner tonight. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Hal Blaine will be inducted.
  • One newspaper says the original Route 66 was a friendly road
  • … While another says it was cruel.
