A gay old time in Gay Parita

KY3-TV in Springfield, Mo., did a feature about Gary Turner and his re-creation of the Gay Parita gas station on Route 66 in nearby Paris Springs.

Those who’ve visited Turner and his station will find many of the details familiar. But a couple of interesting details stand out:

In the past year and a half, Turner says more than 6,000 people have made a pit stop here at his old Sinclair station.

And this:

Turner sends everyone in his guestbook a Christmas card.

That’s classy. No wonder Turner’s place has become popular in a relatively short time, despite its off-the-beaten-path location.

  1. Gary Turner’s Sinclair Station, etc., is not really off-the-beaten-path.
It is right on Missouri Historic Route 66 and anyone traveling actual 66, will go by it. West of Halltown if you follow 266 onto MO96, you have missed the original alignment of 66 that goes by Gary’s Gay Parita Sinclair and Paris Springs and on into Spencer. This is one of the neatest area’s of Missouri 66. One of the original most pristine pieces of 66 road is at Spencer (along with a newly started ghost town restoration).

  2. Glenda, I agree it’s on Old 66, but it’s off the main Missouri 96 highway that goes through that area. Travelers tend to overshoot or overlook the turnoff to the old part of the highway.

  3. It is right on old R66, but looking left at the wrong time you might miss it. It is a great stop, I was here beginning september 2008 meeting Gary was really fun. Stayed there almost a day.
Compared to Seligman, a very famous stop also, this one is still
pure, not too much spoiled by tourist yet.
