I guess this proves that anything can be named after Route 66 these days. From the Amarillo Globe-News:
About two dozen protesters organized by Repent Amarillo spent New Year’s Eve carrying signs, singing and praying outside a business in downtown Amarillo that they claim is a swinger’s club.
A party organizer with the Route 66 Swingers Club, who declined to be identified, said the gathering at 413 S.W. Sixth Ave. was simply a New Year’s Eve party. There wasn’t going to be any sex at the party, she said. […]

The organizer said the party involved fewer than 98 people – which is the occupancy rate allowed – coming together to have drinks, dance and celebrate the new year.
“What else could be happening?” she asked. “There’s no place to (have sex there). That’s not going to happen.”
Some people may choose to go to hotels to have sex following the party but that is a personal decision, she said.
I’m certainly not one to advocate nonmonogamous relationships. But it also appears the swingers group is not violating any laws. These are consenting adults, after all.
But you have to wonder about a group name that’s so, ahem, naked, in its purpose. You’d almost think the Route 66 Swingers Club is trying to invite trouble. Apparently the word “discreet” isn’t in its vocabulary.

I can assure you that the people at this club are hard-working, tax-paying, family-loving, good people. They are doing nothing illegal and the stereotype of swinging is way overplayed. It’s not some uncontrolled orgy….it’s simply consenting adults doing what consenting adults are able to do behind closed doors. Afterall….it’s better to be open with your spouse about your sexual desires than to sneak behind their back to sleep with someone on Saturday night only to stand next to that betrayed spouse on Sunday morning.
Rt66 is completely discreet…it is NOT a public business….it is members by invite only. The address is not plastered everywhere….and only given out by the owners AFTER the phone interview is completed. You are not allowed to just walk up to the door and be allowed in. Like I said….invite only. and as Mr Grisham stated himself…..noone knew about this place before he picketed and called the medias attention to it….so obviously…discression is very prevalent to this club. And you now know why!!! But Mr. Grisham has failed in his attempt to “shame” people from going…its gonna be bigger and better than ever!!
We lived in Amarillo 20 yrs and swinging has always been there. We have been married 28 yrs and swingers for 10, it has been a blast and made our sex lives together so much better. It is not for everyone but don;t judge til u have tried it. We have played with judges, cops, doctors, teachers, professors…… and even an astronaut…
I think it is much better than cheating wich is very prevalent in Amarillo!
