“Sur la Route 66”

I don’t understand the language, but the arrangement grabbed me almost instantly. This is French actor and singer Eddy Mitchell on “Sur la Route 66.”

(Note: The animation is sorta interesting, but not terribly germane, I reckon.)

Anyone have a translation?

UPDATE: Vincent Desmonts has provided a translation to English here.

  1. You’re correct that the animation is hardly germane to Route 66 … since it shows a divided highway with signs for Van Horn & El Paso, thus looking a lot like I-10, which is quite a distance — in miles and culture — from Route 66.

  2. Hi there ! I’m the frenchman showing up for a quick translation 🙂

    Here it goes :

    My deepest regrets
    Really sorry for you
You’re going back to your sorrow
    But this time without me

    On route 66
    Nobody awaits you there
    No more musics,
    Lonely bars,
    There’s only ghosts
    You can’t see

    Legendary highway
    Crossroad of mysteries
    But now lifeless
    Forgotten
At the end of the dream
The magic comes to an end
    On Route 66

    On Route 66
    When the blues was king
    Drifters, singers, guitarists
    Were out of time, outlaws
Handsome half-breeds, in rags or riches
    Synonym of freedom,
    End of utopias
    The past is lost
    On Route 66

It crossed the whole country, east to west
From the northern snows to the California sun

    On route 66
    Nobody awaits you there
    No more musics,
    Lonely bars,
    There’s only ghosts
    You can’t see

    Legendary highway
    Crossroad of mysteries
    But now lifeless
    Forgotten
At the end of the dream
The magic comes to an end
    On Route 66

    🙂
