To & From the Mother Road

If you’ve got some time to kill, I recommend you sit back and peruse this online issue of To & From magazine, which devoted a special issue to Route 66. You can flip the pages right here, and enlarge them as well:

Diana Nguyen, editor of the magazine, said the Route 66 issue “could have easily been more” than its 232 pages. She said the photographs and experiences came during her and her husband’s trip down Route 66 in June.

  1. Such wonderful photos, but sadly it looks like another case of interested travelers being scraped off of Old 66 onto newer State 66 at Catoosa and ending up in Sapulpa without ever seeing Tulsa’s 11th Street motels, Hotel Campbell, downtown deco, Blue Dome District or Red Fork. I know the new signage is aimed at fixing this, but I’m afraid this is a map issue. I’m hoping Ms. Nguyen with her eye for what is beautiful along the road will return and re-route through Tulsa one day.

  2. Thank you Ron for sharing my trip with your readers! I created this as a scrapbook of our journey and wanted to share our discoveries along the way. Unfortunately, we only had 9 days to drive the Route so I realize we missed a lot, as Susan pointed out. I absolutely owe Tulsa and many other cities (including those in my home state of Illinois) another run (or in this case, a new course) through Old 66.

  3. Loved your journey into a glimpse of Route 66. The pictures were amazing and while some places were missed, what can you expect in 9 short days, this just wets our appetites for the Mother Road and all that she has to offer. Thanks for the ride!
