Route 66 Rendezvous taking donations

The Route 66 Rendezvous is accepting donations to help to cover additional expenses for the Sept. 13-16 classic-car event after the City of San Bernardino, Calif., filed for bankruptcy, reported The Press-Enterprise.

The event website, www.route-66.org, is accepting donations in amounts ranging from $10 to $250, classifying donors as a bronze, silver, gold, super or ultimate “cruiser.”

“Donations made will be allocated exclusively for the operational expenses of keeping the Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous in downtown San Bernardino,” the website said.

At one point, the Rendezvous considered moving to Glen Helen Park in nearby Devore, Calif., after San Bernardino’s police chief said he was unsure the city could pay for patrols during the event.

But Jack Brown, CEO of longtime Rendezvous sponsor Stater Bros. Markets, insisted the event stay downtown.
