Topock Resort project on schedule to open in April

The owner of the large Topock 66 Spa & Resort project in Topock, Ariz., says it remains on track to open in late March or early April, according to a report in the Havasu News-Herald.

Chet Hitt says he’s optimistic the $13.8 million project on the banks of the Colorado River will be operating by the Laughlin River Run on April 24-28.

The newspaper said:

Hitt anticipated having an official groundbreaking ceremony in late December when pouring large concrete footings to support the main building’s structure.

For now, the fuel storage and trash enclosure is complete; the pad is finished; and site clean-up in preparation for the groundbreaking is at hand.

“The pool contract will be issued in the next two weeks,” Hitt said.

Topock 66 Spa & Resort complex will feature a 102-room hotel, restaurant, bar, marina, and events center. The project was announced in May 2010, but financing was yanked because the site was on a floodplain. Construction resumed in September 2012 after Hitt included an 11-foot seawall with the plans.

Topock 66 Spa replaces Topock Marina, a popular stopping point for Route 66ers and other travelers for a meal or beer. The marina was razed, but Hitt pledged to reuse its beams — once parts of an old bridge — in the new building.

Hitt has posted dozens of construction photos on Topock 66 Spa’s Facebook page in recent weeks.
