Litchfield Route 66 museum soon will accept artifacts

The fledgling Litchfield Museum and Route 66 Welcome Center Association in Litchfield, Ill., soon will begin accepting artifacts for its facility, reported The Journal-News.

The newspaper said:

The policy for the museum will be to accept objects, documents, photos, etc., that are directly related to the history of Litchfield and its relationship to Montgomery County. Also accepted will be Illinois Route 66 items, particularly those of Historic Route 66 in Litchfield. Because of limited space, personal and family items, such as furniture, clothing, photos and glassware, will not be accepted at this time.

Items may be given to the museum. Families wishing to loan items may do so for a minimum of five years. They should also come prepared to provide the committee with all the information known about the item, such as origin, ownership, etc. Items must be in good condition with no broken or missing pieces.

The first day for accepting the artifacts will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays during those hours for that purpose, until further notice.

Organizers hope to open the museum to the public by spring.
