Burger Hut in Needles reopens after hiatus

The historic Burger Hut restaurant along Route 66 in Needles, Calif., reopened in early April after being closed for about three months, reported the Needles Desert Star newspaper.

Ana Johnson, Brandon Wenning, and Sigfredo Jovel are running the drive-up eatery.

One goal is to restore the original menu. Wenning said Johnson is going back to all the items she remembers off hand. Then, if or when customers order items she couldn’t remember, she’ll add those on, he added. […]

The menu will include hamburgers, burritos and chimichangas, Wenning said. They will be hand-making all the food including the ground and shredded beef. […]

“I’m happy to be here to serve the wonderful local customers,” she said. “I want to give back your Burger Hut.”

According to one online account, The Burger Hut was built in 1957 by Lee McCary. It was renamed Irene’s Burger Hut, then Irene’s Drive-In, before reverting to its original name.

  1. that is exciting!! i was just thinking about buying my moms old burger hut and turning it into the place i so fondly remember as a young kid working there till around age 18. It was where the action was at night for all the locals. a juke box made the difference for a number of years. I would turn it into the 50s type diner atmosphere again. GOOD LUCK to the owners!!
