Boots Motel neon sign glows again

After a complete restoration, the vintage sign at the Boots Motel in Carthage, Mo., again is glowing with neon light nightly.

Ron Hart of the Route 66 Chamber of Commerce, who’s also done much restoration work on the Route 66 motel, says the sign is being “beta-tested” until mid-July “when it will be officially turned on by the Route 66 roadie that donated the $2,500 needed for the sign’s restoration!” A firm date on the relighting ceremony will be announced later.

Hart said in an email:

The person who made the selfless contribution to return this iconic sign back to the way it was in 1939 is being kept a secret for the time being, and may come as a surprise to many in the Route 66 community.

In the meantime, drive-by and take all the photos you wish…..by Day or by Night!   A shiny black 1951 Plymouth is also on display under the sign.
