This video, shot over the Fourth of July holiday, shows all of the dollar bills affixed to the walls, ceilings, and whatever else is available at the Oatman Hotel in Oatman, Ariz.
According to the videographer, the total count of the bills was 62,000 about three years ago. There’s little reason to doubt that:
Incidentally, the historic Route 66 hotel doesn’t take overnight travelers, and hasn’t for several years. It still operates as a restaurant, tavern, and ice-cream parlor.
The Oatman Hotel is reputedly famous for being the honeymoon spot for Carole Lombard and Clark Gable in 1939. However, the webmaster for the CaroleLombard.org site in recent years has made a compelling case that the couple’s overnight stop in Oatman never happened.
