Joel Baker has posted on YouTube the third episode of his “American Giants” series, which delves into the history of giant fiberglass figures, aka Muffler Men.
This episode’s focus is the Muffler Man on Route 66 in Atlanta, Ill.
You’ll see footage of the Muffler Man being dismantled in Cicero, Ill., and being moved to Atlanta.
While on my Route 66 vacation, I discovered the Gemini Giant at the Launching Pad restaurant in Illinois. Illinois must be the center of attention for the muffler man giants. It’s good to see so many around. I’ll have to visit Atlanta, Illinois on my next Route 66 adventure. There’s always lots to discover on the mother road!
Episode #4 is out for series American Giants. It covers the Uniroyal Gal in Peoria. Because I could not reach the owner of the Gemini Giant I removed the second half of the episode that covered the Wilmington muffler man. Once I touch base with him I’ll release the entire episode.
