Last day for Irv’s Burgers is Oct. 30

The last day of operation for Irv’s Burgers at its historic Route 66 site in West Hollywood, Calif., will be Oct. 30, according to a person close to the situation.

Dave White wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday night:

They are officially closing their doors on October 30. That’s the last day. The lawyers are done negotiating and it’s settled. They have to move. So I’ve been working with the Hongs on an IndieGoGo page to help them relocate the business.

Scott Piotrowski, a longtime advocate for Route 66 in Los Angeles County, vouches for White’s veracity on the Irv’s situation. Oct. 30 is a Wednesday, if you’re wondering.

In June, the Hong family that’s run Irv’s for more than a decade was given an eviction notice by its landlord. But less than two weeks later, the landlord yanked the eviction notice and announced the Hongs could stay there until another site was found or a settlement was reached.

Developers had wanted to create a Beach Cafe lounge and restaurant on the site and planned to merge the Irv’s Burgers building into the design. Whether that’s still the case remains uncertain.

Irv’s originally was a Queen’s Burgers stand in 1950. It’s at 8289 Santa Monica Blvd. George Motz, host of the Travel Channel’s “Burger Land,” has cited Irv’s for serving one of the best burgers in the country.

The IndieGoGo page is supposed to be launched sometime Thursday. I’ll post the link here when it goes live.
