Restaurant opens inside Campbell Hotel

The historic Campbell Hotel, formerly the Casa Loma Hotel along 11th Street (aka Route 66) in Tulsa, this week opened Maxxwell’s restaurant on the west end of its block-long building.

Just a few short months ago. that wing of the hotel was little more than a hollowed out shell where a few antique cars were parked for decorative purposes. Now you can see all the wooden furniture and retro decor above.

And check out the retro neon sign (left) that went up shortly before the restaurant opened.

Maxxwell’s describes itself as “New American.” You can download the main menu here (PDF).

Among the items that caught my eye are the blackened fish tacos, wasabi deviled eggs, housemade kettle chips, shrimp pasta, Just-Like-Mom-Made meatloaf, and steaks from Kansas-based Creekstone Farms.

Below is a BELT sandwich, which is bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato.

The restaurant also has separate menus for breakfast, children, and gluten-sensitive customers.

Maxxwell’s is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The restaurant should create a big boost for The Campbell Hotel. Although the restoration of the 1927 hotel (which is on the National Register of Historic Places) and its terrific decor earned praise from fair and wide, one thing missing was a dining option on-site. The opening of Maxwell’s rectified that situation.

UPDATE 9/13/2013: Someone at the Tulsa Food blog paid Maxxwell’s a visit, and give it this positive review.

  1. Another place I’m excited to check out—it looks terrific and sounds wonderful (and gluten-free fish tacos, YAY!). Will you be visiting soon?

  2. Had the pleasure of heating @ Maxwell’s last weekend. Husband had the prime rib and I had the rib eye. Calimari for appetizer. Food & Services was great. Looking forward to our next visit.
