“Route 66” as heard in 1946

If you want to hear what “Route 66” sounded like when it was first recorded and released by Nat King Cole in 1946, this is the closest thing to it — a 78 rpm record.

  1. I actually found one of the original 78 rpm records by Nat King Cole singing “Get Your Kicks”. I found it a number of years ago and it was priced at $1.00. It was in a store where the owner had been involved in the music industry and he had all his 78 rpm records for sale, hundreds, if not thousands of them. It was marked on the label as a promotional copy as most of records collection were. Promotional copies were the ones given to radio stations to get the station to play the songs on the radio, the method used to get exposure to new songs so they might buy the records. It was one of my great Route 66 memorabilia finds.
