Corvette installed at Route 66 Mural Park

One-half of a 1964 Corvette was installed Friday at the Route 66 Mural Park in Joplin, Mo., near Seventh and Main streets, where two alignments of Route 66 intersect.

According to a news release from the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau:

The newly placed corvette will provide a photo opportunity for visitors to stand by with the Route 66 murals as the backdrop. […]

Images in Tile through the Joplin Arts Community erected the two murals that are the main features of the park. The two murals, “Cruisin’ into Joplin” (upper) and “The American Ribbon” (lower), were dedicated Aug. 2, 2013, as part of the opening of the 2013 Route 66 International Festival.

Dalton-Killinger Construction Co. is the principal contractor of the Corner Greer & Associates Inc. design. 4-State Trucks’ Chrome Shop Mafia completed the detailing of the red 64 Corvette.

The murals themselves — the red Corvette, a 45 record imprint of “(Get your kicks on) Route 66” and an embossed “Route 66 Joplin Missouri” retaining wall — are all daytime features already in the park.

At night, a glowing Route 66 shield, a lighted arch resembling an old white-wall tire and a lit tile map of the Route will offer a completely different experience. The lit tile map will be the last feature installed. Mural Park dedication should take place in early February 2014.
