Fundraiser launched for Route 66 barber shops documentary

A fellow that readers may recognize by the nickname of Haircut Harry is launching an Indiegogo fundraiser to make a documentary film about barber shops along Route 66.

Titled “Zen and the Art of Barbering,” Harry wants to raise $5,000 to cover travel expenses for the film. As of Thursday night, he’d raised more than $1,100 with more than three weeks left in the campaign. It summarizes on the Indiegogo site:

“Zen and the Art of Barbering” is a visual journey along Route 66 from Chicago, IL. to Santa Monica, CA, that explores the diversity of communities and people along the way through local barbershops and historic sites.

And here’s Harry’s video pitch:

The campaign offers several goodies up to a ceiling donation of $100.

As I mentioned earlier, Harry did a Route 66 trip earlier this year, including a shave from Angel “Guardian Angel of Route 66” Delgadillo at his historic shop in Seligman, Arizona, all meticulously captured on video:

Harry wrote in an email:

It was a quick exploratory trip we did on sections of Route 66 to help us gauge the plausibility and direction of this project! We were also testing out a different camera and a couple lens to help develop the final feel and look. […]

Zen and the Art of Barbering is going to be different in that I will not be in the video, but rather behind the camera! The focus of this project is to explore the diversity of communities and Americana along Route 66 using barbershops as the common link.
