Boot Hill auction delayed

The auction of Boot Hill Saloon & Grill in Vega, Texas, scheduled for Saturday, was delayed because of bad weather, reported the Amarillo Globe-News.

The auction by Caprock Auction Group now will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7. Bids will start at $25,000, with unspecified reserve.

The restaurant and bar on Route 66 was going to stay open up to the auction. But apparently owner and operator Rory Schepisi held a last hurrah Saturday. She wrote that day on her Facebook page:

So today’s the day, in 2007 I, with the help of a lot of people opened the doors to Boot Hill. Over the last 8 years I’ve learned a lot about myself, others and business in small communities. I want to thank everyone that supported me, my staff and my dreams. This is in the top two hardest things I’ve ever had to do, closing the doors to my work, my passion, my love. Please come see us tonight for the last toast! Thank you again.

Schepisi, best-known for her reality television roles in CMT’s “Popularity Contest” and “The Next Food Network Star,” initially put the restaurant up for sale in early 2012, citing time-travel commitments. She revealed in January that Boot Hill had suffered steep financial losses in the past year or so. Schepisi also had long complained about a lack of quality employees in the area and a lack of support from Vega residents.

She plans to open another restaurant in nearby Amarillo.
