Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program

The Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, under the auspices of the National Park Service, on Monday announced the launch of a new website with a lot more features.

Among the new goodies on the site:

— A new National Park Service Route 66 map you can download in PDF form. The webmasters promise an interactive map is coming soon.

National Register of Historic Places properties on Route 66.

— The Route 66 Discover our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary, where heritage minded travelers can plan their Route 66 trips around visiting National Register-listed sites.

National parks on or near Route 66.

— Information on the Route 66 cost-share grant program, which includes details and photos of more than 100 of the program’s past cost-share grant recipients.

— A Preservation Resource Center, where you can find information on how to maintain a historic building, sign, bridge, road, and more. It includes an online Route 66 Directory of Financial and Technical Assistance.

— An online Route 66 Archives and Research Center, which is a portal of historical collections and information designed to help students, educators, filmmakers, business owners, community members and others find information they need about Route 66.

— A News and Events section where to stay up-to-date on Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program news.

The old website was attractive, but somewhat rudimentary. The new website will prove much more useful for Route 66 travelers and historic preservationists.
