Women’s outdoors group traveling Route 66

Sisters on the Fly

Sisters on the Fly, a prominent women’s outdoors group, is traveling Route 66 this month with 300 members at 11 scheduled stops, many of them in decked out, vintage trailers.

According to a news release from the group:

Since the start, many of the Sisters have famously renovated and decorated vintage trailers, which they use to caravan to/from many of the group’s planned activities. While not a requirement, the vintage trailer caravans have become one of the SOTF trademarks and the Route 66 journey is no exception. More than 300 Sisters will tow and display their vintage trailers on portions of or the entire journey and will spend one to two nights in each city, taking in the sites and attractions of each while visiting with other Sisters and followers who stop by to say hello along the way. The schedule for the month long trip includes:

• May 12-13- Joliet, Ill.
• May 14-15- Springfield, Ill.
• May 16-17- St. Louis.
• May 18-19- Springfield, Mo.
• May 20- Drive and visit Kansas.
• May 20-21- Claremore, Okla.
• May 22-23- Oklahoma City.
• May 24-25- Amarillo, Texas.
• May 26-29- Santa Fe and Gallup, New Mexico.
• May 29-31- Williams and Kingman, Arizona.
• June 1- Barstow, Calif.
• June 2-5- Ventura, Calif.

“This trip has been on our bucket list of adventures for many years,” said Maurrie Sussman, Sister #1 and co-founder of Sisters on the Fly. “Traveling with a group this size is a once in a lifetime experience and we are so excited about the participation, enthusiasm and hard work that our Sisters have put into making it a reality.”

A quick perusal of the Sisters’ website shows they’ve done steelhead fishing, Cowgirl College, fly fishing, Missouri River trout fishing and numerous other events this year alone.
