Auto museum with giant gas pump planned in Sapulpa

Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum is being planned along the Mother Road in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, that includes a 20-foot-tall, vintage-inspired gas pump.

The museum is being built in the old armory building (below) along Route 66 on Sapulpa’s west side,at 13 Sahoma Lake Road.

At the top of this story is a sketch of the planned giant gas pump. It’s out of scale, but you can understand what the museum is trying to do. It’s much like the giant soda bottle at Pops in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

The Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum, Inc., is currently seeking memberships. Annual memberships cost $45 for two people, while a lifetime membership is $2,500, which includes lifetime admission to the museum for two people, a plaque with a chosen name on the wall of the museum and 15 percent off purchases at the giftshop. Memberships are tax-deductible.

The museum have a booth at the Route 66 Blowout in Sapulpa on June 6.

  1. Looking closer at the drawing it would appear that the proposed giant pump WOULD be about 50 feet relative to the persons shown. If we say the larger person shown is 5 to 6 feet, the pump looks to be 40 to 48 feet high. Now that’s impressive.
