Brooks Building in Arcadia soon will have a Route 66-friendly tenant

Brooks Building, Arcadia, OK

Joel Rayburn, owner of the Route 66-related GlassBoy Studios and Tourist Trap Tees, soon will move into the historic Brooks Building just a stone’s throw from the Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma.

Rayburn told me in a text he should be ready to open the doors to those businesses there by early October.

According to a 2011 article in Route 66 News, the Brooks Building is nearly a century old and is owned by the Arcadia Historical Society. The building once housed a grocery store, feed store and welding shop before it underwent emergency repairs on the roof a few years ago.

At one point, the society planned to convert the building into a visitors center, but that apparently didn’t pan out.

GlassBoy Studios makes smaller-scale replica neon signs for classic Route 66 business. Tourist Trap Tees designs T-shirts inspired by Route 66 legends.

The move makes sense for Rayburn, as collaborators Jim Ross and Shellee Graham live just east of Arcadia.
