Restored neon sign installed at Kingman dealership

OK Used Cars sign, Kingman

A neon sign for OK Used Cars that dates to about 1960 recently was restored and re-installed at Dunton Motors Dream Machines along Route 66 in Kingman, Arizona.

Route 66 author Jim Hinckley reports the sign was relighted Friday. A recent news release from the Route 66 Association of Kingman says an official relighting ceremony is scheduled for later this month, but the sign is operating now.

Dunton Motors is at 119 E. Andy Devine Ave. (map here).

The OK Used Cars brand started in the 1920s by Chevrolet. Hemmings Motor News has a history of the brand here. In short, used cars that had the OK brand went through an inspection process before they were offered for sale, thus giving potential customers a bit more assurance.

Hinckley also says two more signs are being restored in Kingman —  one from the Hotel Beale cocktail lounge and another from the Brandin’ Iron Motel.
