Is the Gold Dome leaking?

Gold Dome, Oklahoma City

Over the weekend, a video by Diana Winslow surfaced that shows water damage around the exterior of Oklahoma City’s historic Gold Dome, indicating a roof leak or drainage problems.

Winslow works for Examiner.com, but I’ve seen no story about this yet.

Regardless, the video speaks for itself. And she asks an important question — is the Gold Dome leaking inside, as well?

In May, developer Jonathan Russell bought the Gold Dome after Edmond, Oklahoma-based TEEMCO abandoned plans to buy and renovate the property in the wake of oil-price collapse. Steve Lackmeyer, a reporter for The Oklahoman, said this month two grocery chains were looking at occupying the space.

Whatever tenant is looking at the space may have an unpleasant surprise on its hands.

The Gold Dome was built as a Citizens State Bank building in 1958. In 2003, it faced demolition until Dr. Irene Lam bought it and turned it into a retail complex. Shortly afterwards, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2012, the building fell into foreclosure.

The Gold Dome sits at Northwest 23rd Street and North Classen Boulevard, both sections of Route 66.
