More long-ago Route 66 adventures in a 1959 Cadillac

Bob Waldmire, Reichardt video

Anthony Reichardt recently posted more videos from 1994 and 1995 when he drove Route 66 in a 1959 Cadillac.

The first is of the Hackberry General Store in Hackberry, Arizona, when it was owned and operated by the now-deceased Route 66 artist Bob Waldmire. When you hear him talk about bats, you know you’re listening to classic Waldmire.

Reichardt interviewed Betty Wheatley, longtime owner of the Dairy Ranch Drive-In at the Buffalo Ranch complex in Afton, Oklahoma. The restaurant closed and was torn down about 15 years ago, replaced by the Buffalo Ranch Travel Center. Some original Buffalo Ranch memorabilia may be found at Laurel Kane’s Afton Station in Afton.

Next is the long-closed Hinton Junction Courts and Cafe in Hinton Junction, Oklahoma, when the neon “EAT” sign still was on the roof of the deteriorating building.

Finally is the long-closed Conoco gas station near Arcadia, Oklahoma. The ruins don’t look much different now, except the canopy finally collapsed some years ago.

If you haven’t seen all of Reichardt’s Route 66 videos, check out his YouTube channel. They’re well worth seeing.
