The historic Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield, Missouri, will mark its 90th year with a big New Year’s Eve concert by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and an expanded number of classic-movie screenings and plenty of concerts through 2016, according to the Springfield News-Leader.
A total of 12 to 15 films will be screened next year, triple the usual count. Some of the films and live concerts will recall the history of the Gillioz.
Including the anniversary events, the Gillioz has about 100 events booked for 2016, Steele said.
The Gillioz opened Oct. 11, 1926, about a month before the federal government officially commissioned U.S. 66, which ran right past the theater.
The theater reopened in 2006 after a multimillion-dollar renovation. Robert Low, owner of the Prime Inc. trucking company, bought the theater in 2013.
The Gillioz also has hosted the headlining concerts for the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival.
