World’s Largest Rocker gets new color, new name

Red Rocker, Fanning, Mo.

The World’s Largest Rocker at the Fanning 66 Outpost in Fanning, Missouri, on Friday was painted red and rechristened as Route 66 Red Rocker, according to a post from Cuba MO Murals and More page on Facebook.

The post also read:

Owner Dan Sanazaro said the new paint job and new look for the rocker is part of an update that will take place at the Fanning US 66 Outpost General Store and Archery Center and the Fanning Feed Store grounds. Other changes will take place over the next few months.

The rocker reminds us of Sammy Hagar, the Red Rocker, and we think the rocker’s new look might catch his attention. Hagar is said to be attracted to the energy of the color red and uses it as a theme in his music. If anyone knows Mr. Hagar, tell him to feel free to come rock out on the Route 66 Red Rocker.

Getting Hagar to Fanning isn’t as far-fetched as it might sound. St. Louis was a crucial city in him becoming famous as a rock star, and he still visits the city regularly. St. Louis is only about an hour’s drive east of Fanning.

The so-called World’s Largest Rocker was built in April 2008. It measured 42 feet tall and was black.

The name change, I suspect, was prompted because someone built a 56 1/2-foot-tall rocking chair in Casey, Illinois, in August — presumably making it the new world’s largest rocking chair. There’s no word whether the Guinness Book of World Records officially entered the Casey chair as world’s largest, and a search on the Guinness website came up empty.

But because the Casey chair is more than a dozen feet taller, the folks at Fanning 66 Outpost probably felt compelled to change something. Indeed, the rocker part of its website is listed as “under construction.”

  1. After the word Guinness on the rocker, is the date of the rocker’s reign in the Record Book as the World’s Largest Rocking Chair. The red color may also be tipping its hat to the Cardinals Baseball team as the chair is deep in Cardinal Nation territory.

  2. As a Red Head, and a 66 fan, I love it!

When I tour 66, it will be in my red Trans Am, with t-tops out and Hagar blaring.
