A Route 66 railroad crossing in 360 degrees

Zac Crosby posted a 20-second clip of something I never before had seen on YouTube — video in which you can swivel the view 360 degrees as it is running.

Cameras such as this have existed for almost 60 years, but the equipment obviously has gotten considerably less bulky and complicated over time, thanks to digitization.

Such a format obviously has its limitations. But it also can be awesome, such as this footage inside the Grand Canyon:

As for Route 66, here’s footage by longtime roadie Brad Nickson from the Blue Whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma:

Another clip from Nickson of Totem Pole Park near Foyil, Oklahoma:

YouTube has formed its own 360-degree video channel here. There undoubtedly will be more 360-degree Route 66 footage in the coming years.

  1. What a very cool perspective, kind of like being on the Tilt-A-Wheel at the fair! Thanks for making me aware of these! And Brad, if you see this, please do more!
