Christmas in Devils Elbow

Roamin’ Rich Dinkela recently made this video showing Christmas decorations at the Elbow Inn bar and restaurant and the Devils Elbow Bridge along old Route 66 in Devils Elbow, Missouri.

So it seems right to post this video on Christmas Day:

The folks in Devils Elbow began decorating the bridge for the Christmas holiday a few years ago, and each year they make improvements to the decor.

It’s a great tradition they’ve started on that very old section of Route 66, and I hope they keep doing it.

The Devils Elbow Bridge, built in 1923, underwent a $1.3 million restoration in 2014 using a variety of county, state and federal sources.

The Elbow Inn dates to the 1930s as the Munger-Moss Sandwich Shop. The sandwich shop moved to Lebanon, Missouri, but the restaurant remains as a barbecue-and-beer place that’s proven popular with tourists, locals, bikers and Fort Leonard Wood soldiers.

Devils Elbow itself contains no more than a few hundred residents, but it also is a gem because of its 1927 post office and its picturesque site on the Big Piney River, which makes it popular for tourists participating on canoe and float trips. The town got its name because of a nasty turn in the river made it tough to float harvested logs through there.
