Jubelt’s Bakery and Restaurant along old Route 66 in Litchfield, Illinois, will mark its 95th year with giveaways and specials this weekend.
According to The Journal-News:
Jubelt’s will be giving away 95 prizes over three days and offering $.95 price specials on certain bakery and restaurant items. The weekend festivities also include a free pumpkin or bat cookie and trick or treat bags for the children, decorated Halloween cookies, cake pops and cupcakes, apple dumplings,assorted pumpkin items and more. A turkey dinner will be offered Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
Jubelt’s was inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame this summer.
Jubelt’s, launched by three Jubelt brothers, actually started down the road in 1922 in Mount Olive, Illinois.
Jubelt’s opened restaurants all over central Illinois and opened a Litchfield site in 1952 and moved into its current site at a former Burger Chef restaurant in 1982. The current Jubelt’s, which is the only survivor of the chain, is operated by a third generation of the family.
In terms of longevity, I’m hard-pressed to think of a restaurant that’s been going that long on Route 66. One that comes to mind is Ike’s Chili, which has served up bowls of the stuff in Tulsa since 1908. Maldaner’s in Springfield, Illinois, has operated since 1884.
