Route 66 Chamber seeks to move into historic barber shop

The Route 66 Chamber of Commerce recently announced it seeks to move into the historic Dale’s Ole 66 Barbershop in Joplin, Missouri. The main building also will host an art gallery.

The chamber stated on its GoFundMe campaign and on a separate website that Dale’s would would be restored so the chamber could use it as a Route 66 visitors center along with displaying Len Nordmann’s artwork.

According to the website:

Dale’s Old Route 66 Barbershop (formerly a Phillips Petroleum filling station) is located at 2312 Utica in Joplin, MO.)  Visit the Photos Link. The Satellite image shows the filling station, the cottage, 2 storage barns and a nice green lawn that can be used for group parking. Other images show the station circa 2001 before the ‘new’ vinyl siding went on, and it is in excellent restore-able condition. We need help to make this happen, so look for our ‘Go Fund Me’ link below, and also on the Route 66 Chamber of Commerce website, Visit66.

The station, later turned into the barber shop, was built in 1928.

The chamber’s GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise $5,000. As of Thursday night, less than $200 had been raised.

Nordmann, who specializes in automobile and Route 66 art in California, in 2015 sought to acquire the property from Shirley Holly, widow of Dale Holly, who owned the barber shop for 50 years as Dale’s Ole 66 Barber Shop until his death in 2012.
