New welcome arch installed in Kingman

A new “Welcome to Kingman, Arizona” arch — featuring a Route 66 shield prominently in its design — was installed Tuesday over Beale Street between Locomotive Park and Lee Williams High School to help escort travelers to the city’s historic downtown.

The arch cost the city an estimated $170,000 for the final product from Young Electric Sign Co. in Salt Lake City. The archway is 64 feet wide and almost 25 feet tall.

An official lighting ceremony for the arch is set for July 6 as a part of the city’s First Friday activities.

The Bee reported:

The First Friday Kingman Arch Dedication will kick off at sunset, 7:54 p.m. The sign will be lit via solar lights at sundown from then on out.

Live music, waterslides, slip-n-slides and other heat-beating amenities are planned to cool the crowd in one way, shape or form. Food is still in the works and may be at Locomotive Park where the rest of the party will be, but downtown restaurants are only a few blocks away.

Kingman Visitors Center also stated in a Facebook post that hundreds of cupcakes also will be offered during the relighting event. More about the First Friday may be found here.
