Another old building in downtown Baxter Springs being renovated

It’s not just the Decades of Wheels ownership group that’s revamping century-old buildings in downtown Baxter Springs, Kansas.

According to a story in the Cherokee County News-Advocate, Coltyn Seifert, his brother Casye and wife Kelsey have worked for months to restore at building at 1020 Military Ave., which is part of Route 66.

According to the owners’ GoFundMe page, which has set a fundraising goal of $100,000:

“The weeks and months following we arduously worked to strip plaster off the walls to expose the authentic brick walls, clear out debris and edge closer to installing features like electric, plumbing, and HVAC.”

After months of brainstorming, the trio have settled on constructing a coffee shop, podcast space, production studio and second-floor lofts in the structure.

The group’s GoFundMe page has raised only $225 as of Friday morning, but it had been up only about a week. Even if the fundraising goal isn’t met, the trio vows to keep working on restoring the building.

As for Decades of Wheels, its grand opening next month may get a boost by the rumor the Oct. 14 concert with John Kay and Steppenwolf (“Born to be Wild”) may be Kay’s last. The longtime frontman of the band may retire after that gig, as there are no scheduled concerts by the band after the Baxter Springs show. However, the Kay retirement report has not been confirmed.
