Work day set for Nov. 16 at Henry’s Rabbit Ranch

Volunteers have scheduled a short work day on Nov. 16, to spruce up the area around the Stanley Cour-Tel signs at Henry’s Rabbit Ranch on old Route 66 in Staunton, Ill.

The Stanley Cour-Tel neon signs were salvaged from a Route 66 motel in west St. Louis. The signs were moved before the motel was razed to make way for expansion of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

Weeds are starting to grow up through parts of the signs. So the group will move the signs a bit and lay down some landscape plastic and gravel. Volunteers should bring shovels, gloves, and any other tools you think would help with the project.

The work begins about 11:30 a.m. that Saturday.

While you’re there, you can check out Rich’s collection of Route 66 and Volkswagen memorabilia. And, of course, the bunnies.

  1. By the time we got to rabbit ranch from our California starting point I thought I seen all the weirdness that route 66 had to offer. This playful stop was another reminder of the many surprises we encountered on our journey. I think Route 66 is more like the funky road not the mother road.

  2. Is this going to be rain or shine? The extended forecast doesn’t go through Saturday the 16th yet (will tomorrow) & right now Staunton has rain on Friday. I’m going to wait to book a room down there until Friday until we know more.
