Woman eats three 72-ounce steak dinners in 20 minutes

Big Texan Steak Ranch dinner

Molly Schuyler, the 120-pound Nebraska woman who ate two 72-ounce steak dinners in one 15-minute sitting at Amarillo’s Big Texan Steak Ranch a year ago, devoured three 72-ounce steak dinners in a mere 20 minutes Sunday afternoon and broke a record, according to the Amarillo Globe-News.

The crowd cheered as Schuyler, a Nebraska native who lives in Sacramento, Calif., finished her first steak dinner in 4 minutes, 18 seconds, beating the restaurant’s record of 4:58 she set May 26, 2014.

Those who wish to take the challenge have 60 minutes to complete the dinner and receive the meal free. Otherwise, the meal costs challengers $72. […]

She is no stranger to competitive eating. In January 2014, she downed a record 363 wings in 30 minutes at a competition in Philadelphia and earned $22,000.

Schuyler was awarded $5,000 for completing the challenge in under an hour. She also pocketed the prize of $1,000 for fastest eaten steak dinner, giving her $6,000 total.

In addition to the gargantuan steak, the Big Texan challenge includes a salad, a shrimp cocktail, a baked potato and a roll. You get the meal for free if you consume it all in an hour.

Schuyler on Sunday also competed against several two-person teams and still beat them handily. And get this — she started a few bites on a fourth 72-ounce steak but stopped because she was full.

She said she would like to return to Amarillo to attempt four 72-ounce steak dinners in an hour, but acknowledged polishing off five in that time would be “unattainable.”

Schuyler in May destroyed the old Big Texan record of 8 minutes, 52 seconds, set by Joey “Jaws” Chestnut in 2008 by eating the meal in less than five minutes.

The newspaper shot video at the event. The contest starts about the 39-minute mark.

The Big Texan started on Amarillo Boulevard (aka Route 66) in Amarillo in 1960 and advertises its Mother Road roots often. After Interstate 40 opened in the early 1970s, the Big Texas picked up and moved there to ensure its survival.

  1. If my math is correct, that is 12 POUNDS of meat alone.
This woman needs to spend her “prize money” on professional psychological help.

  2. I watched the last Nathan’s challenge winner eat almost 70 hot dogs so the stomach can stretch quite a bit.
