A new Pops restaurant and soda store opens today in the Nichols Hills area of north Oklahoma City, reported The Oklahaman newspaper.

The new 5,000 square-foot restaurant will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 6447 Avondale Dr. […]

The Nichols Hills location will offer burgers, fries and shakes, plus more than 600 varieties of cold soda pop.

The new Pops will be within rock-throwing distance of Western Avenue, known as Beltline Route 66 from 1931 to 1947.

POPS also has small locations at Tulsa International Airport and Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

The original flagship Pops that opened on Route 66 in Arcadia, Oklahoma, features a restaurant, gas station, convenience store, about 600 types of soda and a 66-foot-tall soda bottle of multicolored LED lights. It drew huge crowds almost immediately after opening and still does.

POPS was the brainchild of Aubrey McClendon, former CEO of Chesapeake Energy and founder of American Energy Partners in Oklahoma City.
