Laurel Kane celebration of life set for April 30

Laurel Kane

A celebration of Laurel Kane’s life is scheduled for midday April 30 at her beloved Afton Station on Route 66 in Afton, Oklahoma.

The announcement was made this week on a new Facebook page:

There was no place where Laurel was happier than Afton Station and nothing she loved more than a celebration. That said we can think of no better way to remember her than to get together to share memories, shed some tears and even have some hearty laughs.

Those planning to attend are urged to RSVP though that Facebook page because lunch will be provided. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kane, 69, died in January from a short illness as a result from a fall in her Tulsa home.

She’d lived in Oklahoma since 2002 after she and her former husband, David, bought a D-X station on Route 66 in Afton and restored it to store her Route 66 memorabilia and David’s Packard collection. She met thousands of tourists at the station each year. David Kane said after her death he would plan to keep Afton Station going.

  1. Ron, do you know if this Facebook page is just for this celebration, or will it be taking the place of Laurel’s blog?

I ask because I am receiving this message when I try to follow the link above.
