A trip down Oklahoma’s Route 66, circa 2009

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation recently began uploading videos to Vimeo, including this 17-minute trip down Route 66 in the Sooner State.

It’s not a recent video, as I noted a few things that apparently have changed since it was shot. The big totem pole at Totem Pole Park near Foyil has been repainted in recent years, and performer Annabelle Russell — one-half of the Mediocre Music Makers in Erick — died in 2014.

Route 66: An Oklahoma Scenic Byway worth exploring from ODOT on Vimeo.

The video, though well-produced, contains one whopper of a mistake. It talks about and shows a railroad bridge called the Pony Bridge south of El Reno near U.S. 81. However, the video’s narrator clearly describes the Pony Bridge and its 38 pony trusses, which is the one on old Route 66 near Bridgeport. You’ll see what I’m talking about around the 13:15 mark.
