Disney-Pixar recently announced the songs and artists that will be on the eight-song “Cars 3” movie soundtrack.

The songs include originals by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and blues rocker ZZ Ward, four covers of classic songs and two instrumentals by country-music star Brad Paisley.

Here’s the track listing:

  • “Run That Race” by Dan Auerbach
  • “Ride” by ZZ Ward, featuring Gary Clark Jr.
  • “Kings Highway” by James Bay (cover of a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers song)
  • “Glory Days” by Audra Day (cover of a Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band song)
  • “Drive My Car” by Jorge Blanco (cover of The Beatles song)
  • “Freeway of Love” by Lea DeLaria (cover of an Aretha Franklin song)
  • “Truckaroo,” instrumental by Brad Paisley
  • “Thunder Hollow Breakdown,” instrumental by Brad Paisley

Day and DeLaria also provide voices for characters in “Cars 3.”

Disney Music released the ZZ Ward song “Drive” on its YouTube channel:

The covers-and-originals mix of the “Cars 3” soundtrack is the same sort of formula Disney-Pixar used in the original “Cars” soundtrack. Rascal Flatts’ cover of Tom Cochrane’s “Live Is a Highway” became a massive pop hit, and old songs by Chuck Berry, the Chords and Hank Williams found new audiences. Paisley contributed songs and instrumentals in the first movie, as well.

Disney-Pixar also will release a separate album for the “Cars 3” musical score, written by and conducted by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman, who also wrote the score for the original “Cars” and its Oscar-nominated song, “Our Town.” The musical-score album will contain 21 tracks.

The albums won’t be released until the movie premieres wide in theaters June 16. The soundtrack may be preordered here. The musical score album by Newman may be preordered here.

The original “Cars” move in 2006 — which largely took place in the fictional Route 66 town of Radiator Springs — spurred renewed interested and a new audience to the real-life Route 66. More about the inspirations to the Cars characters and landmarks may be found here.
