InSites offering special tours in Chicagoland on Thanksgiving, holiday season

If you’re in the Chicago area during the Thanksgiving holiday or during the Christmas season, the InSites tour company has something for you.

InSites and David “Windy City Road Warrior” Clark, who organized tours a few weeks ago during the Miles of Possibility Conference, are offering a Thanksgiving Day road trip between Wilmington, Illinois, and Chicago on Route 66, called Drumsticks and Other All-American Kicks on Route 66. The event includes a dinner buffet at Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket.

From the news release:

Starting and ending in Chicago, and open to the public, Drumsticks is planned as a delightfully small tour… just right for kickin’ back and slippin’ out of Chicago on turkey day (10:00a – 5:30p) along the first, last & best 50 miles of Route 66. The group will kick off from the front steps of the Art Institute of Chicago with a short city walk, and be dropped off there at the end of the day. An All-American road adventure, the trip comes complete with driver & wheels, and running(board) commentary.

Planned stops for Selfies on 66 include: Midewin National Tall Grass Prairie (where the bison do roam), Castle Eden (66’s 1/10th scale White House), the Art Institute Lions, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Union Station, the Gemini Giant, Dell Rhea’s neon, Chicago’s Route 66 Begin/End signs, and lots more.

InSites also is organizing a City Sidewalks on 66 walking tour through the Christmas season.

Planned stops for Selfies on 66 include: the Art Institute Lions, concert halls and theatres, specialty stores and the department stores of that great street – State Street, iconic skyscrapers, gorgeous interiors and lobbies, welcoming hotels, beloved eateries, Union Station, the Route 66 Begin/End signs, and lots more along the very first three-fourths mile of Route 66!

The 90 minute tour is available daily from November 24 to December 27, kicking off from between the lions in front of the Art Institute of Chicago and ending at Union Station. Get your holiday kicks strollin’ in town on the City Sidewalks of Historic Route 66 ..dressed in Holiday Style.

Clark, who wrote an excellent guidebook called “Exploring Route 66 in Chicagoland,” has researched Route 66 for close to 20 years and has been the go-to tour guide for walking tours of Route 66 in that city.

  1. Having been a friend, fan and client of David’s for many years, I can attest that his knowledge of Route 66 in Chicago rates #1. Having enjoyed his tours, talks and photo ops is a must for any roadie, old or new.
Should be on everyone’s Bucket List, if you are a Route 66 roadie or not, you will come away knowing more than any reading any guide book.
    I recommend this tour.
