Several towns in the Oklahoma City metro area have pledged to improve the look of Route 66 on the west side.
According to a story by KWTV in Oklahoma City:
The mayor of Bethany is calling for other cities to assist in fixing the seemingly forgotten highway, Route 66.
Oklahoma City, Warr Acres, Bethany and Yukon have agreed to work together to improve an 11 mile stretch of the highway, also known as the Mother Road.
New signage, lights, and median improvements from Portland all the way to Frisco Road in Yukon are possibilities.

It’s always been my observation the Oklahoma City area has considered Route 66 as an afterthought (the restoration of the Lake Overholser Bridge a notable exception).
The region briefly came to its senses after Paul McCartney and his fiancée traveled through the area on the Mother Road in 2008. Oklahoma City beefed up its Route 66 signage in the wake of Sir Paul, but that was about it.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s second-largest city, Tulsa, keeps coming up with new ways to pay homage to the Mother Road, with more to come in the months ahead.
