Programming note

In the next day or so, you may notice a few changes to the appearance of Route 66 News. That’s because the guts of the website will be undergoing a few but crucial upgrades.

I found out a few weeks ago the main WordPress theme, or skin, of Route 66 News hasn’t been updated by its developers in two years, and none is forthcoming. Though the theme has worked well, problems slowly but surely will multiply as it becomes more antiquated. One aggravating but relatively minor problem already has surfaced in recent months.

In short, it’s time to retire the theme and get a new one.

Traffic has trended down in its usual seasonal way, and no big stories seem to be on the horizon. So I figure it’s a good time of year to do some tune-ups on the site.

Don’t worry. Route 66 News will continue to do its usual thing for the foreseeable future as it has for the last 13 years. It will just look different.

  3. Changes or not, Route 66 News is the best and most-frequently updated site on this subject. Not to mention, well written. I read it daily.. Thanks, Ron!

  4. Close your fingers and cross your eyes and hope you don’t get a big surprise. Good luck with the changes, and I hope they’re not too “buggy.” I await your new look with baited breath.

  5. Still great after all these years. Keep up the good work.

Perhaps these changes explain why Google Chrome won’t let me on the site.
