The city of Yukon, Oklahoma, on Tuesday broke ground for a bicycle trail that will run to Lake Overholser in Oklahoma City along Route 66.
The trail should be ready for use by midsummer.
News 9 in Oklahoma City reports the $827,000 bike trail will begin in Dickinson Park, run along the south side of Route 66 east of town and end at the lake.
A grant from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will cover 80 percent of the cost.
The trail will be 10 feet wide to allow for the use of cyclists and runners simultaneously.

A map of the bicycle trail’s route is above. The nice part is the trail will connect to old Oklahoma 4, which in turn can connect to Overholser Drive and Morgan Road in a scenic drive around the lake, including the historic Lake Overholser Bridge that carried Route 66.
I’m sure the folks at the Adventure Cycling Association will put this Yukon trail in future editions of its Route 66 maps.
