There’s a new Sheriff in Galena

A new attraction has been placed along old Route 66 in Galena, Kansas — and the folks there are putting the Sheriff of Radiator Springs on a pedestal.

A facsimile of the 1949 Mercury police car that served as the Sheriff of Radiator Springs in the 2006 animated film “Cars” now sits on lift above the ground a few hundred yards east of Cars on the Route in Galena.

Best of all, the cherry on the top of the car lights at night. The car’s cherry once was lighted by a battery, but owner Renee Charles recently procured a converter that will light it with a direct electrical line. It should be operating again by Monday night.

Here’s a video of the car being lifted onto its pedestal in late March:

Roamin’ Rich Dinkela recently posted a good video of the sheriff on his pedestal:

Michael Wallis, who supplied the voice of the sheriff in the “Cars” movie, autographed one of the car’s doors a few years ago.
