Route 66 Trail project in Edmond to begin this month

A 2.4-mile Route 66 Trail for cyclists and pedestrians in Edmond, Oklahoma, will begin construction this month and be finished by spring.

According to the Edmond Sun, the city and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation are sharing costs on the project.

The city will cover $2.6 million of the cost from a capital improvement sales tax passed in 2000. The state will cover $900,000.

The trail will run just south of Route 66 from Midwest Boulevard to Post Road on the city’s east side, with Arcadia Lake to the south.

The state rebid the project in October after bids in the spring ran over budget, city manager Larry Stevens said during a city council meeting last week.

Crossland Heavy Contractors of Tulsa was awarded the project.
