A journey on how Disney’s Cars Land was developed

Disney Parks a few days ago uploaded a video where two people from Disney and Pixar were interviewed on how they came up with the inspirations for Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park.

Pixar’s Roger Gould and former Disney Imagineer Kathy Mangum provide an under-the-hood look of what went into the development and creation of the 12-acre Cars Land, from their research trip along Route 66 to how they built one of the most complex Disney attractions to date.

Cars Land is marking its ninth anniversary. The park itself is slated to reopen July 9 after being closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The foundation for Cars Land is the 2006 Disney-Pixar movie “Cars,” much of which took place in the fictional Route 66 town of Radiator Springs but drew much of its inspiration from real-live people and places on Route 66.

The Route 66 research included trips with Michael Wallis, author of the seminal book “Route 66: The Mother Road” and the voice of the Sheriff of Radiator Springs in the “Cars” animated films.

The video is less than five minutes, but it packs a lot into a small package. It also gets into the details over Cars Land’s annual Christmas decor.
